So many DHS/ICE "reform" ideas floating around as the budget fight in Congress develops.

From 2010-2014, I helped negotiate & enforce consent decrees relating to racist/violent police agencies across the country as part of the U.S DOJ's Civil Rights Division (RIP!).

Even if that's not true, this is a great moment for the talented to wrap their skills in agents they own, and rent them to those who used to employ them.

Execs in long-lived industries are afraid of their baby boom workforce retiring and taking all the formal and informal knowledge of how to create value and resilience with them. Agents hold out hope that the enterprise can thrive without embodied experts.

Got to wonder if there's a role for labor unions and other worker advocates to retain some equity, ownership or control, in those agents which will outlive them. As human actors struck against Hollywood to define rights in perpetuity to their likeness, maybe SMEs need rights to their expertise?

The next wave of agentic AI will see most modular agentic "skills" being created to reproduce the hard won abilities of employees who were masters at a particular bit of creative work, analysis, problem solving, or other social or knowledge work.
