When i was a waitress, i would look at what the customer was staring at on the menu and make suggestions in part based on that. Sometimes i would answer questions before they asked them.

For razors and other cardboard packaged contrivances on tiny slatwall hooks with red or yellow locks holding them inconveniently out of reach, i have taken to tearing the hook hole and just taking them to the register. The clerks give me a vaugely annoyed look and then take my money. So far so good.
