Otakon was an absolute blast! And weirdly enough I actually went the whole weekend without buying any new #gunpla!

Didn’t find anything I absolutely needed I couldn’t get during a normal hobby shop trip.

I do about 1 part water based acrylic paint to 10-20 parts water, and the secret sauce is a tiny drop of clear dish soap. It breaks up the surface tension for good flow.

Model building feels very meditative to me, it’s a great way to just have a Single Thing to focus on and see actual tangible progress as I work on that Single Thing

This isn’t all of them but it’s the ones I have masked off. And a bit of a preview of the color scheme! I’m not changing it too much, but a few changes to tones/shades and adding more separation and scribed lines between other color shades.

Forgot to take a pic, but the chest armor for Exia is now 1/4 of the way done!

Despite being more expensive than I would have liked, this was pretty fun, but probably only if you're a big fan of Transformers (I am) and really like the design (I do). But they nailed cute without overly sexy, and has some unique design and proportions to her - I'm really happy with it overall!

I also didn't like the human face as much aso I didn't think to take any pictures of it - here's some promotional pics that have both the human face plates, and some alternative bangs in the second pic.

The only main complaint I have is honestly the price. This ran me almost $90 after shipping, tariffs, and a price jump after the announcement, and while I really like this design (she's really cute and it just looks great), I feel like this should have maybe been half the price.

Besides the energy axe, the rifle is the only other major accessory that she comes with, holds nicely in her hand (which actually has some nice trigger discipline) and simple but with a few color separated points. Didn't think to try holding any 1/144 weapons, but likely wouldn't fit right.

I liked the build overall, though a few parts feel a little weak - the neck joint likes to pop out, and the wrists fall out pretty easily because it's a peg between two pieces - so any slight separation loosens it a lot. But once she's in a pose, she holds it well.

The design was really well made, with only a few places needing color accuracy touch ups - the Matrix was just all the same white plastic, and the Autobot insignia was just molded and needed painted. The black areas on the waist are painted too, originally all in red.

Let the Matrix light our darkest hour...

A relatively quick build, but after a nice top coat and some detail work, Kotobukiya's Optimus Prime (Humikane Shimada Ver.) is in the books! And she looks amazing!
