A piece of storytelling advice that I have heard: a story doesnโ€™t need to be realistic, but it should be believable. I.e. if you create rules in your universe, follow them and donโ€™t make a reader feel tricked.

Anyway, whoever wrote this season of the United States clearly doesnโ€™t like that rule.
