Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

New Union of Concerned Scientists report documents an "extreme rise" in "attacks on science" under Trump. Sort of a squishy term, though they do define it and if you use the same definition across these periods it still gets the point across.

I took my 2 year old son to an MLB game today for some quality dad time and he absolutely had a blast. In fact, he was sad when the game ended because he wanted to stay at the ballpark. It was a good reminder that there’s still a lot of joy in life.

I grew up on Cape Cod. I loved going to Woods Hole, not just for the Falmouth Road Race, which is a family tradition. But also the small but amazing NOAA aquarium. I also remember doing a CT scan on a loggerhead turtle there. Fingers crossed funding doesn’t dry up.

I think listening. Most people who have polar opposite views aren’t out auditioning to be the villain, there is a reason that makes sense for them. People just need to listen with empathy.

I’m going to put my rich guy hat on and say I hope that Mexico and Canada issue equal, retaliatory tariffs and stick to them for an extended period.
