She certainly isn't talking about WA. The speed limit changes here are bonkers and often poorly signposted. Driving in NZ is blissfully simple in comparison.

The way City of Mandurah is 'developing' the city, I hope to be long gone by then. My favourite bits are steadily disappearing.

A detail of an artwork by textile artist Deidre Robb. The image shows small sections of five embroidered tape measures. The embroidery is worked in dark grey and gold threads on white linen. The repeating patterns measure time, not size.
My work 'Time well spent' is a finalist in the Trades Hall Art Prize 2025. I can't make it to the exhibition opening in Melbourne next week, but maybe someone out there can?

The work is called Outbreak of peace and was made for an online exhibition by members of the Western Australian Fibre and Textile Association WAFTA.
For the Western Australian Fibre & Textile Association's latest exhibition, they didn't ask for statements. We simply gave titles and viewers need to work it out for themselves.
My work is called 'Outbreak of peace'.

We've always been 'primary caregivers' of different parts of our gardens. No arguments and we get to go and admire each other's work.
And the storm damage did us a favour. We now have new, safe wiring everywhere. It just cost a lot!
My partner did some sneaky planting in my part of the garden. Last week we had to cancel our trip north to see wildflowers due to storm damage to our house, but now our own garden is looking extra special.

A photo across a glassy estuary towards hills in the distance. There is a flock of black swans on the water. The image is very blue: blue water, blue sky, and blue mountains.

I can relate. Instagram in particular has become an inefficient, soul-sucking trap for many artists.

A photograph of my friend's two border collie dogs who were both trying to put their faces onto my lap.
I had an art night out in Perth with a friend I hadn't seen for too long.
I bumped into so many people, heard an excellent art panel discussion, saw a fabulous exhibition, had some dog love, and bought my partner a present. Now I'm listening to music on the train home and trying not to whistle.

Thank you. I was based in Carnamah and hosted by an organisation called the North Midlands Project. They arranged for me to present workshops there as well as in Perenjori, Mingenew, Moora, and Coorow.

I made this for WAFTA's 30th anniversary 30 x 30 exhibition. All works measure 30cm x 30cm. It is an online exhibition opening soon.

15.07.2025 02:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A fascinating read. "Participatory arts hold up a mirror first to those who take part, and then again in the reception and judgement of subsequent viewers. The difficulty comes when we donβt like what it reflects."
11.07.2025 23:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This work and the story of its creation are an incredible reflection of these times. I really enjoyed reading about it. Participatory arts can indeed reflect and highlight things that are problematic.

Signed and sharing. Aotearoa NZ's Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour has orchestrated a campaign of online harassment and intimidation against university scholars. It is completely unacceptable.
