Thought-provoking. Charlotte gives voice to what other writers think but don't say.

Michael Ridpath Welcome to the official website of Michael Ridpath, author of crime novels and thrillers.

I have just redesigned my website, www.michaelridpath.com

Websites are supposed to be slick and sleek these days, without too much text. But it seemed a shame to ditch so much content, so I've created a new page, Backstories, which has articles about my novels that I hope keen readers will enjoy.

Hið raunverulega fyrsta lamb fæddist í Skagafirði - RÚV.is Svo virðist sem fyrsta lamb ársins hafi fæðst 23. janúar á bænum Kleif í Skagafirði. Um viku fyrr en það sem fæddist á Rangárvöllum og fjallað var um í frétt fyrr í dag.

The Icelandic public broadcasting agency just issued a correction of a previous news item: The first lamb of the year was born in Skagafjörður on January 23rd, and NOT yesterday in Rangárvellir as previosly stated.

The accompanying photo is of the real first lamb born and its mother.

Just finished Gabriel's Moon by William Boyd. Brilliant spy story! Clever, absorbing plot and a fascinating examination of the motivation and character of an accidental spy. Reminds me of Graham Greene, but better.

Kæla öll „hraunaugu“ og loka þeim - Vísir Vinna við að kæla hraunið við varnargarðinn kringum Svartsengi og Bláa lónið hefur gengið mjög vel. Kælingin hefur staðið yfir frá því í gærkvöldi og mun halda áfram á meðan verið er að hækka varnarga...

I love the language they use here: “If a hole opens, an eye of red glowing lava, we try to react and cool them down and close those eyes again.”

Word of the day is ‘librocubicularist’: one who loves nothing better than reading in bed.

(Not easy to say, but I’m glad to know it exists).

I have a very NSFW poem in the Ten Poets Charm the Pants... Not sure if that makes you more or less likely to buy it. Oh! And a completely work safe one in the Everyman Poems of London just visible above with umbrellas on the spine. I have now peaked. Thanks @sidekickbooks.bsky.social

Just gave the plumber one of my books. He disappeared to the basement for an hour and then said he loved the first chapter. I felt flattered until I realised not only had I just given away one of my books, but I was also paying someone an hourly rate to read it! Still feel gratified, though.
