New migration map today! Elk in the Trench Valley of BC make impressive migrations from their winter valleys to high elevation summer ranges. This landscape hosts migratory elk, moose, mule deer & bighorn sheep often using the same corridors. @claytontlamb.bsky.social

Recovery targets fall short of culturally meaningful abundance
We took a different tact but similar goals that managing to bear minimum abundance is not acceptable. We want to hear those hooves on the ground, feel the abundance. www.science.org/stoken/autho...

The hidden cost of wildlife collisions on Canadaβs railways | The Narwhal
Trains regularly hit and kill wildlife on the tracks but poor reporting means governments arenβt sure exactly how many animals are lost
For months @ainsliecruickshank.bsky.social has been pouring over documents trying to find out how many animals are killed on train tracks in B.C. Companies are supposed to report rail kills but records she obtained found reporting is inconsistent and incomplete projects.thenarwhal.ca/collision-co...

I don't disagree with the article overall, but FYI there are inaccuracies about the hunt within the article...fighting falsehoods with falsehoods makes things really messy

Ewe U15 (black peace) last May at Ram Mountain, Alberta. Born about May 24 2015 to ewe P3, 5 years old. Her father was M23, 7 years old.
Ewe U15 is 10. She has weaned 3 lambs over her lifetime, 2 are still alive. This year she lost her lamb at or soon after birth and by mid-September she was 79Kg, 10 Kg more than last year when she weaned a son. #LongTerm

How a Β£1.5bn βwildlife-boostingβ bypass became an environmental disaster
A14 in Cambridgeshire promised biodiversity net gain of 11.5%, but most of the 860,000 trees planted are dead. What went wrong?
βthe failure of the environmental improvements created in mitigation for the A14 are an example of how powerful developers make environmental pledges to gain planning permission, which are then not upheldβ
