My Steam replay for the year!
I always find it super interesting to see what ends up as most played. I went through a couple periods playing at least one new game every day, but the challenge is when I find one I really like, it's hard to move on!

My favorite game ever probably "technically" fits in this category, except is really a music rhythm game and for VR: Pistol Whip! Love, love, love <3

Since launch I have been all over and through Ludocene exploring games (and familygamingdatabase.com) In the beginning I wasnt too surprised to discover a few games I'd never heard of & wanted to play, even starting from my card, but the fact that I just found 4 more *today* really blows my mind!

Screencapture from Table of Tales. There is a clockwork bird perched on top of building terrain, looking down onto miniatures in a village square setting. There is a caption that says "The remaining villagers are horrified."
I played in VR, which was rad, but it's also available non-vr for Switch & PC. It's one of those games (and stories) that has stuck with me long past finishing the game. The visuals of the terrain rise up out of the table is wild and honestly the bird is maybe one of my top 10 fav GMs of all times ๐

Table of Tales: The Crooked Crown seems perfect for this! Unique tabletop adventure with clockwork bird GM! She weaves a fun story full of surprises with humor & charm. Good ol' strategy too as you decide how to approach a scene (fighting isn't always the best option!)
A product photo for Everdell board game showing the board and cards set up. In the middle of the board is a 3D tree with flat tree branches (like shelves) that pieces are played on
Do you add boardgames to these lists? Root and Everdell seem like great fits and are both in the DB as board games. As a bonus they both have great digital versions as well
Everdell even has a big tree that stands in the middle of the table! :)
Dice Player One is a standout among Balatro-Yahtzee games. You build a set of 20 unique dice with special powers and bonuses, but each round you only draw 5 of them at random to use. A deckbuilding delight ๐
Bonus points for cool thematic starter sets to unlock and a fun graphic style.
Here's my card for Ludocene! One thing I'm really excited about is connecting folks with hidden gems. Let me know if you find something cool. Or if you know of a game I might like ๐

got some usability gripes but this thing is introducing me to games with 20 steam reviews so its miles better than anything i'm aware of
06.08.2025 22:24 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My favs are Pawnbarian, Shotgun King, and King of the Bridge. Potentially belongs on this list is a chess-themed Roguelike Tower Defense game called Defend the Rook. It uses chess-themed pieces to not play chess :)

When I first got into board games 20+ yrs ago, I discovered Knightmare Chess. Basically you build a deck of cards with special rules to play chess. Ever since I've enjoyed exploring wacky chess variants. I really like video game versions bc you can try again & again and the rules are handled for you

I've had a Switch 2 for less than 48 hours. Calibration doesn't have any effect.
10/10 outperforms OG Switch for joystick drift, a high bar!
Anything I can do here?
This is one of my favorite games in recent years. The story really stuck with me, well worth the play.

You know youโre an accessibility specialist when half the things you love or hate about a new game come straight from the options menu.
You know youโre an accessibility specialist when you go from โcool featureโ to โwhy isnโt this standard everywhere?โ
Dawncaster: Mobile-only deckbuilder that's VERY good. I play so many games in this genre and this one just hits the sweet spot. Variety & challenge, unique card mechanics I haven't seen anywhere else, good story, so much to unlock, A++

Loot Plot is a current obsession!
It's an interesting twist on "a whole game build around organizing your inventory", hits somewhere between Ballionaire and one of those factory/automation games, with wild combos and lots of discovery

Exactly.
And fwiw, you know you're working in accesibility when you comment that something on social media might not be inclusive and the author comes back the next day asking for ideas to change wording. ๐๐
A few other ideas based on shared experience trends:
โIf you ____, you might be an accessibility specialist.โ
โTell me you work in accessibility without telling me you work in accessibility.โ
โA11y bingo: whatโs on your card this week?โ
โWhat hill are you dying on this week? (A11y edition)โ
Thanks for being open to considering other options!
One easy shift might be changing โyou arenโt... untilโ to โyou know you are... when.โ
Itโs subtle, but I think the first might read like a list of standards for legitimacy, while the second feels more like a checklist of relatable experiences

I'm working on a very short game about accessibility settings, to demonstrate how they can massively improve a game's playability.
Players have to overcome limited control options by exploring the game's accessibility menu!
Yeah, I get the framing device. However, in a field people come to through varied paths and lived experiences (and where folks often already have their credibility tested, especially in gaming spaces), itโs worth considering who this invites to shareโฆ and who it doesnโt ๐คทโโ๏ธ
20.07.2025 21:23 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Idk, the undertone of โyou aren't good enough to do this job if you havenโt met these standardsโฆโ feels like a weird way to flex credentials in a field built on inclusion.
Thereโs gotta be a way to invite shared stories that doesnโt involve drawing lines around whose experiences are valid?

Hey @geekdadgamer.bsky.social I think this would be a great game to add to www.familygamingdatabase.com
Conducting an investigation back & forth between two characters & using the interrogation/ "condradict!" mechanic to solve the mystery is super fun!
