My first time (an occasional series). Last night on the subway home, a young guy gave up his seat for me. I mentally checked-off the standard priority list β pregnant, visible disability, with young children β¦ old folk. It was pride dented for the rest of the journey. But at least I had a seat.

I'm looking forward to this Changemakers event tonight to launch the eponymous book by Jane Holgate and John Page. Trade unions organise but so do so many other communities and organisations. We can learn and grow from each other.

Cars destroyed by flooding in Valencia piled on top of each other in streets in a small Valencian town.

It was just an ordinary jaunt to Ikea but then we saw the destroyed cars on top of each other in an ordinary street in an ordinary small town. This brought home more directly than any TV images the devastation of the recent floods in our beloved Valencia.

Happy 574th birthday to the University of Glasgow. Despite being a born and bred Glaswegian, I had never set foot in the university until I started my PhD a few years back. My side of town was very much not the university side of town, geographically and culturally. But here's a favourite view #UoG

Having made the switch from the other space I lurked here for a wee while. Now I'm pulling up the big boy pants and starting to post. Not a new year's resolution as such, more of a getting round to something I've been harping on about for ages. Better late and all that ... no?
