A reddit user replying to a post that says "I cannot imagine a deeper insult for a VA than having their role needlessly re-cast because they want VAs to not be replaced by AI. This is a petty, spiteful recasting."
Their reply reads:
Huh? Where did you hear this is what happened? If it were because she was striking this would be a lawsuit, and one she would win without even trying - it is highly illegal to fire and replace someone because they are striking. Hoyo may not be a US company, but the studio that records for them is and they are still expected to follow US law.
On top of that, there is zero indication that Hoyo plans to use AI in their games.
A reddit reply that reads:
Hopefully not, so far they havenโt replaced any union voice actors, only non-union, that I know of. I think the reason why is because it is illegal to fire/replace a union member for striking, I donโt know exactly the specifics when it comes to non-union work. But from what I heard and read it still is illegal for non-union unless they were fired for another reason or if it was a at-will employment. So I donโt think the studio want
"Mihoyo can't use AI even if they want to, it would be illegal" is an argument being presented to you by a community who recently argued passionately: "Mihoyo would never replace striking actors, that would be illegal - and the actors would be victims!"
They seem to have changed their mind since.
