Excellent. However, shovelers are not uniformly paid $30/hr, they start around $19/hr with an option to integrate through experience into a better-paid, more responsible position. In effect, the program functions as a training program for some of the poorest, most marginalized of the Army of Labor.

Albany Takeover - Our Time

There are buses heading for Albany on Wednesday. If we're going to fully fund our libraries as we should, then we're going to have to tax the billionaires instead of begging for crumbs:

I keep count of the number of times in a day someone admires my Zohran pin--and who admires it. Mostly cashiers, working people. Last week I walked into a recently unionized shop. Must have scored five hits in the space of an hour.

He's the voice of the voiceless. And the voiceless hear him. You have to be in NY to gauge the depth of that.

It is a temp thing. They've been hiring emergency workers to clear snow for as long as I remember, usually for a lot less.

Sorry, MAGA, here in the big bad city we don't do chain gangs. People get paid for their work.
Incidentally: Nowhere did Mamdani say a ss card was required--so now let's see you throw hissy fits about the fact that hung-dok-u-mented aylee-uns are taking the jobs.

Mamdani did warn applicants that it's hard work, especially because the snow is very wet and heavy. Told those participating to take plenty of breaks, not to overstress. Naturally the MAGAs went bonkers.

Obviously. The media's overrun with right-wing bots cosplaying as righteous leftists these days. (How'd that work out for Tom Malinowski in Jersey, BTW?)

A favorite of Jacques-Louis David as well, not just for the BΓ©lisaire, either, David's Brutus seems to be inspired by Marmontel's legal theorizing.
Congratulations!

But there's no reason to frame the narrative to exclude nullification as a vital, a real presence. Besides, we've seen a number of similar instances recently, e.g. the DC "assault with a deli weapon" case.

Best,

I've served on a grand jury and on the regular kind, which is more than you can say for most any lawyer today. I can understand why Chris Murphy doesn't want to tackle the concept of Jury Nullification--it's one of the dirty little secrets of the Judicial System.

Also worth remembering that worker resistance against overwhelming odds persisted for a week. See Ilona Duczynska. Workers in Arms: The Austrian Schutzbund and the Civil War of 1934. With an intro. by E. J. Hobsbawm. New York: Monthly Review Press. 1978. (The author was the partner of Karl Polanyi.)

Stop selling despair. There’s a long history of grand juries and juries β€œrunning away,” notably in refusing to indict runaway slavespre-Civil War.

Something deeper than money-laundering here. I'm also thinking about Jack Lang, the former, highly influential French Minister of Culture, who's been forced to resign his museum post. An economist friend of mine was onto him some 20 years ago.
