Intelligence agencies want assets who will work only for them and not trade the fact that they're spying for X country as leverage to learn something new from the next guy.

Epstein had no loyalty to anyone. Whatever he he learned, he'd pass on to anyone and everyone. This is not a good trait in a spy.

I've written about the overarching post story, causes, underlying pattern. But the failure of Lewis or Bezos to even show up, literally or figuratively, on a day of devastating cuts epitomizes the profound lack of character and accountability that is so common place today within the American elite.

Epstein claimed to Michael Wolff that there were certain people who were too disreputable to take money from, but to whom he'd still offer "advice." Which seems like a euphemism for getting paid in information rather than cash.

I found this interesting because it suggested that Epstein was consciously recruiting girls and women who were of legal age for some purposes. Which makes sense. It's what most guys want. Young women, not children.

There's one email from an Eastern European model scout who tells Epstein that he's found a 19-year-old and he says something like "I know she's younger than what you were looking for."

The other stream of girls is more privileged, they tend to start out as models or personal assistants. They are a lot more visible to Epstein's larger network of associates.

Virginia Giuffre is a pivotal figure in this saga because she started as a poor underage massage girl in Palm Beach and rose to become a mainstay of Epstein's jet-setting public life. There's no other victim with quite that story.

There are two different streams of girls. The underage girls are typically poor and recruited by Ghislaine or by their peers who who were already lured to service Epstein. Most of them don't travel.

The underage victims have very similar stories: Being recruited to give Epstein a massage at his home in Palm Beach or Manhattan. Those who describe being trafficked to other men name a very small number of people, usually Dubin, Staley, or Prince Andrew.

Girls, yes. Underage girls, no. There are tons of emails that detail Epstein recruiting girls to entertain his friends, but when you dig down you find out that they're 20-somethings, some of whom work at the world, bank, one of whom is married.

This is why I'm skeptical that Epstein was an agent of any particular intelligence service. He was running a private intelligence network. He'd network with anyone who might give him bankable information.

This is in no way to let Epstein and his scummy friends off the hook. Epstein was a monster who surrounded himself with grotesque enablers who continued to hang out with him after his pedophilic crimes were a matter of public record.

Characterizing Epstein's vast network of information-swapping and favor-trading as a pedophile ring mischaracterizes what was really going on. Epstein was trafficking girls to feed his own sex addition but that was not what drew most of his rich and famous associates into his web.

Epstein also used non-public information, celebrity, art, travel, luxury goods, and other enticements to lure prominent people to his orbit, at a certain point, the other powerful people became their own attraction.

The Epstein Files show that Epstein made extensive, even industrial-scale use of young women in their early- to mid-twenties to entertain his powerful male guests. He mostly kept the underage girls for himself and a tiny circle of friends.
