At last, in the UK, we now have official guidance on the use of respirators (FFP3) vs Fluid Resistant Surgical Masks (FRSM) which has been prepared SPECIFICALLY FOR THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR.

This topic exposes how the IPC authors are still wedded to principle of aerosols being ‘respirable’ i.e. 5 microns or less, despite the expert evidence at the Covid-19 Inquiry.

Getting this wrong means that Healthcare Workers are given inadequate respiratory protection.

It clarifies the legal status both of Surgical Masks and Respiratory Protective Equipment (eg FFP3, reusables, powered hoods). It blows away the myth contained in IPC Manuals and many other places by people who would have us believe FRSMs protect us against Covid-19, flu (etc)

BOHS expresses its appreciation to Professor Andrew Curran CBE (Director of Science and Chief Scientific Advisor to HSE) who supported the development of this guidance and personally contributed to the content.

HSE are holding their AGM on 29th July.

These may be of interest to healthcare workers - those still in service and those who were injured by Covid and can no longer work (or are limited as to what they can do).

Following from Question 3 above, here we see the HSE Policy Director suggesting that healthcare workers, injured by occupational exposure to Covid-19, may just want some "incredible retribution for what happened to them"

No! Not retribution! They just wanted an official record made of their case.
