Ukrainian special forces destroy Iskander missile depot in occupied Crimea Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) used FP-2 drones to destroy Russian rear-area and operational infrastructure on Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory, including an Iskander missile storage site, the SSO command said on Facebook. According to the SSO, the destroyed Iskander missile depot was located in the village of Pasechne in Russian-occupied Crimea. Multiple explosions were recorded at the site following the airstrike. In the Russian-occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian drones destroyed a Russian “Rubikon” remote piloting station in the village of Vysoke, the SSO said. Over six days, from February 9 to 14, SSO operators struck more than 10 Russian military sites in occupied areas of Ukraine, including troop concentration points, ammunition and fuel depots, and parking areas for military vehicles, according to the command. The Iskander is a Russian short-range ballistic missile system. Its missiles fly at high speeds on a ballistic trajectory, making them hard to shoot down. Overnight on February 17, the Russian military used 396 drones and 29 missiles of various types, including four ballistic missiles, in an air attack on Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities. Ukraine’s air defenses shot down or suppressed 392 aerial targets, including 25 missiles, but were unable to intercept the four ballistic missiles. Ukrainian officials say that underscores the importance of finding and destroying Iskander launchers and their missile storage sites.

Russia and Ukraine resume U.S.-mediated talks in Geneva Representatives from Russia and Ukraine on Tuesday, February 17, restarted U.S.-mediated negotiations in Geneva, dpa reported. Kyiv aims to focus on humanitarian issues and security guarantees, while Moscow is pushing for territorial concessions, according to the agency. A plane carrying the Russian delegation, led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, landed in Geneva after an eight-hour flight, Interfax reported. The aircraft reportedly flew over Turkey, the eastern Mediterranean and Italy. The Ukrainian delegation, headed by the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, arrived in Geneva on February 16. Umerov posted several photos from the meeting on social media, writing: “On the agenda — security and humanitarian issues. We are working constructively, with focus and without excessive expectations. Our task is to advance as much as possible the decisions that can bring a sustainable peace closer.” Last week, Umerov said one goal of the next round would be to secure a partial ceasefire to protect Ukraine’s energy system. The Russian and Ukrainian delegations are meeting at the InterContinental hotel behind closed doors. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said not to expect details of the discussions on February 17. “I don’t think it’s worth expecting any news today, because, as you know, the work is planned to continue tomorrow,” Peskov told reporters, according to Interfax. “There are no announcements planned on this. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on February 16 that Russia’s delegation for the Geneva consultations on Ukraine would be expanded. He said the team would be led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky and include Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Russia’s General Staff. The group numbers more than 20 people, dpa reported. Ukraine’s delegation - in addition to Umerov - includes the head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office Kyrylo Budanov, deputy Serhiy Kyslytsya, deputy head of military intelligence Vadym Skibitskyi, Ukraine’s Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov, and David Arakhamia, head of the ruling Servant of the People party’s parliamentary faction. DeepState: Defense of Myrnohrad nears end as Russian forces push toward Pokrovsk The defense of Myrnohrad is nearing its end as Russian troops engulf the city, while launch points for Russian drones are being detected in the southern part of Pokrovsk, according to analysts from the DeepState project. Russian forces are also moving infantry into Pokrovsk, the analysts said. “At the same time, the enemy is trying to push into Hryshyne from the northwestern outskirts of Pokrovsk. Two months ago, I was homeless. Now I am housed, and I just got accepted into graduate school! I posted a few weeks ago about getting out of an unstable housing situation thanks to the incredible kindness of a woman I know through work. I began to feel a lot of shame about it at the time. Because I'm a very hard working and ambitious person. So I unfortunately deleted that post. But I’m trying to be proud of how far I’ve come. I've done a lot. I've survived a lot. And I'm incredibly grateful for the kindness that I've been shown. And now, I’ve gotten into graduate school. It’s remarkable how quickly things can turn around. I don’t have anyone to share these things with so I’m celebrating here if that’s alright. Literature and poetry kept me alive when I was younger; they were my escape.
