Listening to an album for the first time can be exhilarating, but Wayne Shorter's records are in a league of their own. I've appreciated his work for years, yet this particular album remained unexplored – until tonight's Classic Vinyl Series reissue arrival! 😊

I haven’t played this one in a while, so it’s time for some Clifford Brown!
“Memorial Album” was released in 1956 (compiled from tracks released earlier on 10” records), and I believe that my copy is from 1960.

Good morning! It’s been a while since I’ve taken “Taru” for a spin. Lee Morgan recorded this in 1968, but it wasn’t released until 1980. Seen here is the 2024 Tone Poet reissue.
I’ve paired it with “Mariah”, a Sumatra coffee from my friends at Oak City Roasters.

It’s a beautiful spring morning, the windows are open, birds are chirping, flowers are blooming. And the air is filled with the smell of fresh coffee and sounds of jazz. I love mornings like this!

Do you ever wonder where your older records were before you owned them? I’ve been the caretaker of this album for quite a few years now. But where was it originally purchased back in 1958? Who was listening the very first time a needle moved through its grooves, and what did they think?
