Also been loving drawing 4 layers instead of 3 lately, that brighter highlight layer works out sooo well in my newer stuff :)

This is me trying to split my mindset in half, the controlled and the detailed observations on one and the expressive, colourful and emotional on the other

Also really fun to test the limits of either extreme in my art style. The different advantages the layered drawing technique I use has for either controlled detailed work and very loose, painting inspired work.

Was really fun working on both of these

I love old scientific drawings of insects and leaves and stuff, so finding a way to channel that in my art style was super cool

And then letting loose with the brush pens, focusing on shape and colour was a really great contrast and challenge :)

Short form social media combined with a general aversion to sincerity and vulnerability in online spaces (+cancel culture) has steered artists away from saying anything of value about their art. Worse, many will say something negative and nothing more.

Some of my favourite etchings from 2020. I've learned so much since then but never regained the productivity I had during lockdown. Only 2 weeks for a finished etching with 7h of focused work every day, crazy
