Colourful Victorian Christmas card, showing a cartoon of two cats walking arm in arm through a field of wheat and poppies. The male cat is wearing a monocle and holding a parasol; the female cat is hoslding a fan. A little behind them walk two younger cats, also arm in arm and under a parasol.

Victorian #Christmas cards never cease to amaze: here's a lovely cat #family, going for a stroll on a gorgeous summer's day.

Mainly for my own ease, I've put together an Irish Diaspora Histories starter pack (I shall be putting them all into a list for when I want an extra dose of Irish diaspora-ness) - there are some Irish migration historians in there too! Let me know if you want me to add you in!

We're marking the start of this year’s #DisabilityHistoryMonth with notes taken from the Vestry Book of Chesterfield Parish, which includes an entry for payment to Samuel Goodlad of Sheffield towards teaching of the violin for a blind boy, Edward Machin, in 1785.

Very sad #GenHour. Sometimes the stories we find are just heartbreaking πŸ’”

On a happier note, today I found a newspaper report from 1885, of 6 children being rescued from a cave on a beach at Ryhope where they had been playing. A coastguard risked his life and managed to rescue all 6.
