CRAFT: The First 13 Hour Clock (Jim Hensonโ€™s Labyrinth) Hereโ€™s how I went about recreating the first 13 hour clock you see in Jim Hensonโ€™s Labyrinth, mimicking the look of an antique ~1870s French Napoleon III wall Clock.

More info on the making of my replica can be found on my blog here:

A prop replica of the first 13 hour clock shown in the Jim Henson film Labyrinth. A large wood antique clock with mother of pearl mosaic design and brass trimmings is shown hung from a tree. In the distant background is Jareth's Labyrinth, with his castle just peeking through the tree branches. The clock is shown at sunrise, with warm pink and yellow lighting.

I made a little miniature scene for the photoshoot of this prop, using fake branches/foliage that I got from the craft store. I also made the mistake of adding glitter to the scene, which has now spread to the rest of my house.

It's been a while since I made a brand new Labyrinth prop replica, but here it is: The first 13 hour clock that you see in the film. I made my version with laser cut/engraved wood, mother of pearl, vinyl, poster paper, and resin.

What's great is I've made a good few of these Didymus' at this point so I have a small handful of little plush acorns I have no idea what to do with. Maybe one day one will take root and grow a little plush oak tree in my craft hoard.

(Also thank you for watching the video!)

I'm definitely biased but I think Didymus is a great project for folks who aren't super crafty, so I totally believe you can make one!

I make/edit videos at an absolute glacial pace, so it feels incredible to finally release this tutorial. Thanks (and apologies) to anyone who follows me for these tutorials, I wish I was faster at getting these out, but I hope the end result is at least worth the wait.

But also guess what Uncle Dan, some 30 years later it turns out you ARE a dink (And not in the dual-income-no-kids way).

Thinkin' about how as a kid I first heard the word "Dink" from Sharon, Lois & Bram, and I didn't know what it was also slang for so I called my Uncle a dink and got in trouble for it all while not knowing WHY I was getting in trouble (I kept trying to explain "It's just a funny word in a song!").

Yeah, that'd be incredible wouldn't it? You've reminded me how apparently Jareth's mask in Labyrinth was won by a fan in a raffle. I wonder if that fan still has it tucked away in a box in their basement somewhere?

I have to assume everything will be completely out of my price range, but I really hope that we get some really good reference photos of all these props. If fans can't own the actual prop, at least we can replicate them!

This is one of my very favorite images, as it features characters performed by Jim Henson throughout his life holding photos (or, in the case of Ernie, drawings) of him at about the period he was performing the character. Among the Muppets shown: Cantus, Dr. Teeth, the Swedish Chef, Sam, Link Hogthrob, Ernie, Kermit (two iterations), and Guy Smiley.

Jim Henson would've been 89 years old today. Commemorate his life and legacy by celebrating creativity, diversity, imagination, peace, and just plain silliness.

Walk with me a bit while I talk about Jim and his work--and leave your comments about what he means to you.

Right this way. /1

Don't beat yourself up about it too bad, we've all gotten got by something like that before! You gave someone the benefit of the doubt and they proved you wrong, that's not on you but on them for being the type of person that your good faith was wasted on.

(The little frame/shield thingy in the pic is made out of stacked pieces of poster paper glued together to build up depth, with a bit of red bondo body filler to smooth it out. Fiddly work, but pretty pleased it turned out as nice as it did!)

A photo of a hand holding a small framed shield, like the kind used on antique clocks. The shield is made out of thin sheets of paper stacked on top of each other, with red body filler to smooth out the shape. In the background is a replica of an antique clock, currently unfinished.

It takes me so long to make prop replicas nowadays because I feel like I'm holding myself up to higher and higher standards of quality. Which always makes for a great end result, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss when I was managing to make a cool prop every month.

I'm finding myself spending less and less time on social media in general, and feeling less and less FOMO for it. I'm sure "limit your time online" is not a new bit of advice to you, but I'd definitely recommend it (especially if that leads you to spending more time on a hobby that brings you joy)

16.09.2025 01:50 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Totally relatable, it's frustrating how much of our lives we have to dedicate to the stuff that just keeps us going (as opposed to what truly gives us joy). I don't have any good advice for dealing with that frustration, other than to try and take solace in what time you do get with your passions.

15.09.2025 00:47 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The important thing is that you're happy/proud of what you produce, if that means we all gotta wait a bit longer for the next season then so be it! Your work is worth the wait. Plus, you don't wanna burn yourself out by forcing yourself to work on it in sub-optimal conditions.

14.09.2025 23:44 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm totally willing to admit he's rad under the strict condition that he stays outside! But if he crosses that threshold he's gonna get demoted from radical to badical

I'm "okay" with spiders generally, but that ends when they're so big that their footsteps can make sound loud enough for the human ear to perceive

08.09.2025 17:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There was an extra large-sized spider hanging outside my front door a few nights ago and now every time I open my door I do so slowly, afraid it's 1. Gonna be out there again and 2. Take me opening the door as an invitation to come in.
