Saw Ten Years After with the brilliant Alvin Lee in their early days when they performing on the club circuit.

Mick Abrahams was a great blues guitarist. Saw him with Jethro Tull and Blodwyn Pig. Still have his LP.

When I saw them in 1968 they were just called Episode.

This excellent film is on Prime Video. A shocking true story of a group of disillusioned outsiders who abandon modern society in search of a new beginning settling on a remote, uninhabited island. It becomes is a chilling descent into chaos where tensions unravel and desperation takes hold.

The review predicted a hit but it didn’t chart.

I have seen Danny perform with Fleetwood Mac. They played at ground level at a small venue in Richmond and all the audience sat on the floor. They were great.

On this day in 1963 The Beatles released their second single Please Please Me. They also taped a performance of their new single on the 11th January for the very popular programme Thank Your Lucky Stars which was televised later on January 19th. It was their first national UK television appearance

Born on this day ALVIN LEE (1944-2013) “The fastest guitar in the west.” Star of the Woodstock Festival in 1969 with his band Ten Years After. I saw them in their early days at The Marquee Club In London. Absolutely brilliant.

I used to visit one of friends at his family house in Ealing to have a guitar jam on many occasions (He still plays with with his band at local venues each week). John Entwistle lived further down the road.

Mr Burton Film biopic about the power of an inspirational teacher and how talent can sometimes transcend the circumstances in which it is found.

Saw Mr Burton last night. A wonderful film starring Toby Jones as schoolmaster Philip Jenkins, Harry Lawtey as a young Richard Burton and Lesley Manville as Ma Smith. Superb performances all round. If you haven’t seen it, it’s on BBC IPlayer. @maryhopkin.bsky.social
