Today I joined Jewish Democrats to pay respects to Sarah and Yaron, who were murdered in an antisemitic hate crime at the Capital Jewish Museum last night.

There is no cause, no conflict, no grievance that can justify murdering innocent people in the street. This cannot be the new normal.

If you have to say “but,” then be aware that you have just boosted antisemitism by adding justification to the murder of two young people.

What you’ve said, in effect, is that you don’t condone murder…unless it’s Jews.

And that is antisemitism.

If you are an ally, if you care about this, I thank you. I thank you for your courage and bravery because the hate is so pervasive, now, that it does take courage to speak out.

If you're on the fence, I encourage you to think deeply about how words cause radicalization & how hate leads to violence.

Our pain is an intergenerational trauma that causes us such hurt. My great-grandmother had to hide under floorboards in a violent pogrom while her town was being burned, pillaged, Jews were assaulted and killed. She told me this story as a young child.
Now, Jews are being attacked here in the US!

Every time anyone mentions the word antisemitism, haters respond by trying to rationalize it.

It's one of the oldest forms of bigotry in the world and the deadliest. From the time we are toddlers, we learn about this hate from our Jewish holidays: From Hanukkah to Passover to Purim to Yom HaShoah.

I hope you'll have courage & denounce this attack.

But how many can resist the temptation to justify the murder of Jews?

I don't meant to sound cynical or bitter. I know that we have some amazing allies, but some are too afraid to speak out, even among our own people.

It is painful & terrifying.
