I'm devastated by the news out of Tumbler Ridge. Like so many across Canada, I am mourning with the community today and holding them in my thoughts.

We need real action to address the underlying issues that are driving food insecurity, including investments in deeply affordable housing and a crack down on price-gouging at the grocery story. 2/2

My recent tour of the Ottawa Food Bank highlighted the incredible effort required to meet the growing need for food support in our city. As more families struggle to afford groceries, food banks are seeing increased demand. 1/2

Algonquin College is facing another round of devastating program cuts; these programs are needed but Algonquin can’t continue these programs when provincial funding is $7,700 less per student than the national average. Students, workers, and our community deserve better. (2/2)

France is banning social media for kids. Australia has already acted. Meanwhile, in Ontario, the government has refused to take any steps at all and ignored our NDP motion, tabled by Catherine Fife, to study the mental health impacts of social media on youth and hold platforms accountable.

Treating patients in hallways and garages is a symptom of a system under strain. Overcrowding isn’t going away on its own. Real solutions start with expanding capacity, including at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

It was lovely to join the community at the Tamil Heritage Month Gala hosted by the Ottawa Tamil Association. Beautiful performances, meaningful connections, and powerful reminders of why preserving culture and demanding justice must always go hand in hand.

This is unacceptable. Education workers and students deserve safety, stability, and real support, not broken promises. No one should fear for their safety at work, and no student should suffer because this government refuses to properly fund schools.

January 29 marks the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia. Today we honour the six lives taken and stand with Muslim communities. Remembrance must be matched with action by building communities rooted in safety, dignity, and belonging for all.
