Congratulations to the Algonquin College Nursing Program on 50 years. Generations of graduates have made a real difference in our health-care system.
Let’s keep investing in colleges so students have the opportunities to step into these vital careers.

I'm devastated by the news out of Tumbler Ridge. Like so many across Canada, I am mourning with the community today and holding them in my thoughts.

Thank you to the Grade 3s and 4s at Agincourt Road Public School for welcoming Councillor Laine Johnson and me to speak to your class about provincial and municipal governments. You had some great questions about the work we do.

We need real action to address the underlying issues that are driving food insecurity, including investments in deeply affordable housing and a crack down on price-gouging at the grocery story. 2/2

My recent tour of the Ottawa Food Bank highlighted the incredible effort required to meet the growing need for food support in our city. As more families struggle to afford groceries, food banks are seeing increased demand. 1/2

Honoured to speak as a panelist at Equal Voice’s Unshakeable: Women Leading with Strength and Wellbeing. A great conversation about how we can support women and gender-diverse candidates and elected representatives in our community, particularly young leaders thinking about running for office.

It's never too cold for winter fun in Ottawa (even if it's better some days to limit the amount of time spent having fun 🥶). Thank you to the Mud Lake Community Association for today's Winter Party and to the Copeland Park Community Alliance for the Skating Party.

Glad to attend the AGM of the Britannia Village Community Association. Britannia’s history runs deep — from a riverside village to the unique and vibrant community it is today — and it was great to hear how neighbours are shaping its future.

In uncertain times, history matters. Black History Month reminds us that resilience, joy, and solidarity have always been powerful tools against division and hate. The stories of Black Ontarians offer a steady compass when the way forward feels unclear. This month, let’s listen and learn.

Algonquin College is facing another round of devastating program cuts; these programs are needed but Algonquin can’t continue these programs when provincial funding is $7,700 less per student than the national average. Students, workers, and our community deserve better. (2/2)

After the loss of the AAADD program and 30 more program cuts, it is very clear chronic underfunding is harming our students, our workers, and our community. Premier Ford and Minister Quinn need to step up with sustainable funding. (2/2)

French MPs take first step towards banning social media for under-15s If the bill passes the upper house it could take effect by the start of France's new school year in September.

France is banning social media for kids. Australia has already acted. Meanwhile, in Ontario, the government has refused to take any steps at all and ignored our NDP motion, tabled by Catherine Fife, to study the mental health impacts of social media on youth and hold platforms accountable.

From the 'Garage' to the hallway, this is the new reality of hospital stays Hospital overcrowding means patients are being treated in 'unconventional spaces' — a trend that is unlikely to end any time soon.

Treating patients in hallways and garages is a symptom of a system under strain. Overcrowding isn’t going away on its own. Real solutions start with expanding capacity, including at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

This is unacceptable. Education workers and students deserve safety, stability, and real support, not broken promises. No one should fear for their safety at work, and no student should suffer because this government refuses to properly fund schools.

Every program cut at Algonquin College is a lost opportunity for young people in Ottawa. Chronic underfunding is putting our local economy and the next generation at risk. The Ford government needs to step up and do better.

Chronic underfunding is leaving more than 53,000 people without the care and housing they need. I’ll keep advocating alongside these organizations for meaningful funding in the 2026 Ontario Budget because everyone deserves dignity, support, and community. 2/2

January 29 marks the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia. Today we honour the six lives taken and stand with Muslim communities. Remembrance must be matched with action by building communities rooted in safety, dignity, and belonging for all.
