Exactly, to do it well, you need to understand how the songs in your genre are structured in order to mix them. So there is basic music theory involved.

There are DJs I'd consider musicians, the ones that of course produce their own tracks. That's an aspiration of mine!

As a DJ, I don't personally see myself as a musician. More of an entertainer. :>
