14.01.2026 17:52 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A noir-style illustrated poster titled “The Case of the Disappearing Copyright.” The Lockette—a cartoon character whose body is an open yellow padlock—cautiously steps out of an open vault marked with a copyright symbol. A strong beam of light shines from outside the frame, casting a large copyright symbol onto the floor. Floating eyes and a magnifying glass with a question mark evoke a detective mystery. Red footprints lead toward the open vault door. Text reads: “Public Domain Day 2026” and “Jan 21st @10am PT: Virtual.” Illustrated by Freya Morgan.

One is "Continue with ads" and lists all the trackers and cookie types you consent to in order to use their page; you can select "agree & continue" with no other toggling of types of trackers or consent available. The second options is titled "...or with Contentpass", and it promises that by clicking "Deny and surf ad-free" using their registered service you can use 703 websites "ad-free and tracking-free with Contentpass for a flat rate of €3.99 per month"
WTAF is this? To view an academic journal website, you either have to consent to all kinds of monitoring and 'targeted advertising' or you have to register with some other service...which I assume also monitors and tracks you?
