It can however be argued that the donation of the AEW 340 is a significant reduction of national capability until the replacements are operational in 2027.

There is no delay.

There are currently no aircraft not needed to keep all six operational squadrons, and training and evaluation units, at full strength.

The defence minister has been clear all along that the Swedish air force readiness will not be reduced.

That’s a potential sale, not a donation. At least not yet or in full. New built fighters are quite expensive.

In all cases so far any training of Ukrainian forces in Sweden has only been announced once completed.

The first of the three squadrons is starting to convert this autumn. There won’t be any surplus aircraft for months.

But more relevant for timing is when training of air and ground crews has started or will start.

That wasn’t spare parts. It was new built parts to avoid having to cannibalise C aircraft to build new E aircraft (like was done for the A to C conversion).

So it’s an indication that Swedish air force JAS 39C will be donated as they become surplus during the rearmament of 3 squadrons to E.

The Swedish total defence concept is that the same actors that are responsible for the running of a sector in peace also is responsible for maintaining it in crisis or war.

This document summarises what they should be preparing for.

Core are seven “type situations” that should be planned for at a local level in and any combination:

Hybrid threats, host nation support, limited military attack on Sweden, attack on Gotland, long range strikes, reinforcement of the northern flank and reinforcement of the Baltic countries.

Not that I can find. It’s a document providing planning scenarios for local and regional governments as well as business and volunteer organisations.

I’ll try to summarise.

It might be inviting creative bookkeeping, but there are also a lot of very deep holes to fill regarding logistics and resilience.

Då är det på alla sätt bättre att utöka det militära stödet till Ukraina.

Om vi ska luftförsvara Ukraina på ett meningsfullt sätt så kan det inte göras i Ukraina. Det måste göras djupt in i Ryssland för att skydda både mål i Ukraina och egna flygstridskrafter.
