Fig. 1 The window for spring ephemerals’ pollination is constrained by the timing of pollinator activity and canopy closure. Curves represent the hypothetical progression of flowering (pink), pollinator activity (yellow), and canopy development (green) in a forest community through time. Dotted lines delineate the window of time during which pollination can occur. Artwork by Gabriela Sincich.

Our new paper on #plant #invasive species and #phenology is out!
doi.org/10.1111/geb....
Nonnative plants tend to be phenologically and phylogenetically more distant from natives than natives are from each other, but among them, invasive species are closer to natives than non-invasive ones.

A plot showing prestige (impact factor) on vertical axis and fees charged by journals on horizontal axis.

A plot showing prestige (impact factor) on vertical axis and fees charged by journals on horizontal axis.

Journal fees for open access are becoming obscene. But what are we, scientists, paying for? I made a simple plot with journals in my research area(s). Clearly, we are paying for prestige: a shockingly clean correlation between the impact factor and journal fees
