The new Naked Gun has so many great background jokes it definitely needs at least a second viewing. And some really nice nods to the originals.

Back in SF for a very brief visit and I feel like the AI billboards along the 101 are reaching near-critical levels.

A hotel nearby has had this on its sign for the last three years or more and... I don't know why. It puzzles me every time I drive past.

Also the waiting room is great as you just get to see a series of dogs incredibly excited and happy to see their humans again.

One cat had to visit the animal hospital today to meet the oncologist (prognosis seems positive at least!).

Wild experience though - got a next-day appointment, talked with oncologists and a cancer surgeon, got pathology on the tumour, and only paid $200. He's got better medical care than me!

Lovely day to take a day off and go hiking today though. Weather is very pleasant, not a lot of people on the trails, and the chipmunks were very active!

Since BitBucket appears to have finally just deleted everything that used to be publicly hosted, I've converted the Mercurial backups of some of the more interesting repos into Git and stuck them on GitHub. Such as South! github.com/andrewgodwin...

The caliber of the applicants for the Django Fellow position really is incredible. Over a hundred people, and it's tough to get it down to even a shortlist.

We have had at least three pairs of birds nesting around the garden this year and it's delightful. Of course, none of them are in the bird box I built.

Anyway, this is to say that any narrative that paints cities versus rural areas as some 50/50 split is so wrong it hurts. They're the core of America.

I have a backburner project working on finding the "most average" city in the US, but the key part of it is that cities ARE the backbone of the country.

The absolute average American, by population, lives in Jacksonville, FL.

85% of the population lives in a city of 100,000 people or more!

It's funny how the tiny nags - like Win 11 removing the ability to put the taskbar at the top of the screen, or being able to resize windows with Win+RMB - built up, and how nice it is to have them back. I did turn wobbly windows off, though, after a brief dalliance with them for old time's sake.

Two weeks into returning to Linux On The Desktop and everything works great. KDE is a delight to use these days, and the customisability is just what I want. Only stumble was that Fusion 360 doesn't really work under WINE, but I have a gaming PC I can use for that.

Well the first giant thunderstorm of the season is here, and it would seem my new 10GbE switch is significantly more scared of lightning than the cats.

Two 3D prints of a roughly rectangular shape sit on a wooden table. One is gray, one is red, but their quality looks very similar.

Still very impressed by this cheap delta printer (Flsun T1). One of these printed on the delta in 5 minutes, the other on a Bambu A1 in 25 minutes. I cannot see any real difference!

With Recall rolling out it's maybe finally time for me to go back to Linux On The Desktop. Windows was good there for a while after the start of WSL, but the enshittification is relentless.

Flying into Pittsburgh for #pyconus right now. Sad to miss the first morning, but I'd rather make some of the event rather than miss it!
