From what I understand it is above the line; so, itemizing has no impact. A lot of people will get an above the line exemption.

It is an above the line deduction. If a person has taxable income they will be paying less in taxes on the tips that are exempt.

A single person working full time in California makes at least $16.50 an hour or $34,320 per year before tips. They are already in the 12% tax bracket before tips.

That is not correct. It is an above-the-line deduction that phases out if income is over $150,000 for a single person.

Will I be tipping less? Yes, I will. At least for the next 3 years.

Beautiful. I planted one three years ago and it did great until this year. It is blooming but struggling. The good news is that two young plants are coming up from seeds the original plant dropped. I was so happy to see the seedlings.
