Oh, hello Kiel.

An absolutely breathtaking concert by the LSO under Sir Antonio Pappano in Dresden yesterday, and at the same time a reunion with dear friends. Truly moving, and deeply enjoyable.

I know throwbacks can be a bit tiresome, but Final Symphony with the LSO, twelve years ago today, was a groundbreaking moment for me. It changed everything.
So I hope you’ll forgive the nostalgia. And what a coincidence – I get to see the LSO live tonight, right here in my hometown!

It’s exactly this ability to notice the small nuances in a language that shows the difference when someone has learned it, instead of only relying on AI. The fact that you’ve picked up so much about a country’s culture through the language makes me feel that the effort will always be meaningful.

Another little throwback, this time to my first meeting with @chrishuelsbeck.bsky.social in the late ’90s. We met at a London Symphony Orchestra concert featuring Jerry Goldsmith’s music, conducted by the maestro himself.
(And yes – early digital photography at its finest.)

It was a special week in Des Moines: Final Symphony was conducted by a chief conductor for the very first time, Joseph Giunta. A dedicated orchestra, an attentive audience – and a wonderful example of how naturally video game music has found its place in concert halls all over the world.

Next year, Final Symphony will come to Belgium for the very first time! I am very much looking forward to collaborating with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, under the baton of Dirk Brossé.
