Does the TA have a support network? Is it even possible to contact her in a caring way when she is undergoing mass harassment and institutional betrayal? It feels like very few academics give a shit about that, and perhaps that’s why you’re doomed.

Here’s a novel idea: what if we discussed how to support the TA while she’s going through this. How do we help an academic worker who is being institutionally thrown under the bus and actively harassed for doing her job because of who she is?

The academic discourse today is like “would the trans TA not have been institutionally murdered if she had given 5 points out of 25 instead of 0 points out of 25”

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

Luckily he didn’t show.

The last time I was set to go to Aspen, someone slipped to me that a man who sexually harassed me was going to have overlapping time with me, so I cancelled — only after my friends had an intervention and sat me down and told me I shouldn't do this to myself anymore.

Among the Aspen Center’s quirks is that they won’t tell you who will be there before you go — and visits are 3 weeks long or more. Once I went and saw my rapist’s name on the door across from my assigned office.

But I had to stay because of the importance of seeing and being seen there.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members.

At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.

I just don’t think we’re freaking out enough about this SNAP cut. I have spent my whole career working with people who rely on SNAP for food. People who work multiple jobs. Who have kids. What do you think happens when 1/8th of the population can’t buy food anymore? Everything is going to collapse.

LETTER FROM THE EDITORS: IU fires student media director after he refused to censor the IDS Indiana University directed the IDS to stop printing news.

Very sad to see what’s happening at Indiana. The school has decided it wanted to muzzle its student newspaper to only print fluffy campus life stories in special sections. When they pushed back, the school cut all print funding and fired their staff director

Young lives cut short on an unimaginable scale: the 18,457 children on Gaza’s list of war dead The children’s names below appear on a list of victims of Israel’s offensive in Gaza, maintained by health authorities in the territory. As of the end of July it ran to 60,199 names, of whom 18,457 were under 18s. Far from comprehensive, the list does not include the thousands still buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings, as well as the war’s many indirect victims As of the end of July there were 18,457 children named on the long official list of Palestinian victims of Israel’s war in Gaza. Over almost two years, that is equivalent to bombs, bullets and shells killing a boy or girl every hour of every day. In reality the deaths are not spaced out so evenly. Siblings, cousins and playmates are often killed together, by an airstrike or artillery shell. Even children shot by snipers or quadcopters are sometimes brought into hospitals in groups, doctors say. Continue reading...

On Parenthood and Genocide A new mother and scholar of forced displacement writes about Israel's mass murder of Palestinian children in Gaza.

This is the 2nd anniversary of the start of a genocide that made Gaza the most dangerous place on earth for children— that has raised a mirror to the rot at the core of our world.

Never has it been clearer that none of us are free until Palestine is free.

A lot of people think that every international student admitted means one fewer spot for domestic students, when the opposite is more likely true - the tuition revenue international students bring allows public universities to provide substantial discounts to domestic students, improving access.

1/ I’m Till Eckert, a ProPublica reporter. For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been going to the same NY immigration courthouse.

Nearly every time, I see ICE agents arresting immigrants. Today, a woman was slammed to the ground after begging officials not to take her husband away.
