Some journals are claiming that you need to pay big $$ for gold open access to comply with NIH's new public access policy. FYI that is total bs. You can comply by depositing the Accepted Manuscript into PubMed Central on the Date of Publication without embargo. Pass it on.

Anecdotal, but I'm definitely noticing an uptick in advocacy for violence here. About which I'll say only this: Promoting violence on social media is the work of trolls and fools, those eager to bait others into implicating themselves in the age of surveillance or fools rushing to the gulag.

βItβs just devastating,β Chicago State president says of federal cuts
As schools like Harvard, Columbia and Northwestern have gotten most of the attention, regional public universities are losing grants and feeling the pain too.
Chicago State University is the only university in the state with a predominantly Black student body, and it has far less money than places like Northwestern University. So far, the school has lost about $5 million in federal grants.

(1) Definitions. As used in this term and condition β
(a) DEI means βdiversity, equity, and inclusion.β
(b) Discriminatory equity ideology has the meaning set forth in Section 2(b) of Executive Order

(c) Discriminatory prohibited boycott means refusing to deal, cutting commercial relations, or
otherwise limiting commercial relations specifically with Israeli companies or with companies

(ii) They do not engage in and will not during the term of this award engage in, a discriminatory
prohibited boycott.
(3) NSF reserves the right to terminate financial assistance awards and recover all funds if
recipients, during the term of this award, operate any program in violation of Federal anti-
discriminatory laws or engage in a prohibited boycott.

FYI, I did generate a quick workbook and figure in colab/gemini for a paper and I explicitly mentioned I did so in the methods. I had to clean up the code though to be useful, but it was a huge time saver & handled cases that I would have been to lazy to build in TBH.

Writing hasn't come up as much in lab research yet. The awkwardness is stuff like @overleaf.com which I've been using for years to manage collaborative papers, including student papers and thesis, now has an AI tool integrated. I don't know that I can turn it off - so the lines are getting blurry.

This is interesting. I have been okay with using copilot or whatever to help start up code, understand it or find errors in lab and upper level classes.
In early classroom experiences, we create a policy but also each bullet point comes with a "why" and examples of where it is/is not allowed.
