It feels wrong that I got at least a version of garashir as a side plot with guest characters but the spirk crowd has a whole show and gets nothing

It feels particularly pointed to me that the fan-fave ships get mentions in all the other shows (J/C in Prodigy, Garashir in LWD, just all of Picard) but the granddaddy of them all just gets left hung out to dry.

Garashir only got an AU mention, so the queer ship stands out

It feels like the spectre of Spirk is the third rail of trek nostalgia. They're doing their best to avoid touching it, but that just makes it worse.

Idk if they can find a way for Andy Robinson and the Garashir Girlies™ to get their moment of fan service, it's possible to throw one out for the Spirk crowd in a classic Trek AU form and move on with normal character development

I'm thinking about my beloved DS9 and how the LWD return built out more to Kira and Quark while also building out the new crew (Of course Kira was in the trenches with Shaxs! That builds story for both of them!) in contrast to how SNW often sections the old and new characters for big moments

The lesson wasn't "avoid queer characters and providing the loosest references is enough for fan service"

It should have been "give us character -driven stories and let us watch them grow and shine, take the opportunity to build out more than we got the first time"

Nodding along with this, truly the franchise learned all the wrong lessons from Disco and Lower Decks
