Ah. The ACA plan we started on 10/1, an Anthem BCBS EPO plan like our last insurance was, is nonetheless out-of-network for our main medical provider and our visit this month won't be covered.
Of course. $2600/month now, $5700/month next year, and also doesn't cover our expenses.
I don't see how insurance risk pools can possibly work when the cost suddenly jumps 2-3x. People who are mostly healthy will have the most incentive to drop coverage and hope for the best.
In another year, the risk pool will be even worse and costs will go up even more to cover them.
We've been on corporate group plans forever, with two periods relying on COBRA in the last ten years. Starting last month 10/1 is the first time we've used an ACA plan.
It is wonderful timing that they are finally managing to destroy the ACA right as we start to rely on it.
Jeez.

They are 16+ now and well beyond our ability to have much control of their media consumption.

Nope, no take-backs.

05.11.2025 14:24 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It is heartening both that the AP waited until the polls closed to call it, and that the AP feels the result is so overwhelming to call it the instant the polls close.

(Californian here)
I wasn't willing to risk it and signed up for ACA, which in 2025 provided roughly the same benefit at roughly the same cost as the COBRA plan had.
I'd hoped to receive the Cal-COBRA letter in October, but alas. The prior employer's plan doesn't qualify for Cal-COBRA, for one reason or another.
Our access to the regular COBRA plan ended 9/30/2025.
It turns out to be impossible to find out in advance if Cal-COBRA will extend it another 18 months past the end of the regular COBRA, you just let it expire and wait to see if they send a letter within 30 days.
"By using Covered California, you'll save $5.00/mo on your health plan. Your estimated yearly cost includes these savings."
Gee, thanks.
