These attacks on Harvard have a flavour of Orbán’s slashing of the CEU. Nauseating.

This seminar is in a few minutes.
Learn about crisis bargaining in international relations, surplus extraction, and... salami-slicing.

There’s one slight issue with Labour’s immigration plans: they’re completely untethered from reality | Jonathan Portes The government’s new policy will take us back to an uglier, more dangerous place – and it’s not even supported by the data, says professor of public policy Jonathan Portes

"Migrants.... are overall more likely to be in work and have slightly higher wages. It follows almost automatically that their short-term impact is to boost, not reduce, GDP per capita. Indeed, that’s exactly what the ONS says.”

Oh and don’t say that the goal is to only make it harder for low-skilled migrants. These reforms trigger difficult and expensive processes for all migrants, which particularly discourages skilled migrants who have other options in more welcoming countries just on the other side of the channel.

Fact: Migrants have an average positive impact on the economy. Cutting immigration is costly.
It will make it *harder* to revert austerity, create growth, and reduce inequality. Wasn’t that the government’s goal?
Starmer’s new rhetoric is based on lies. Excellent explainer here :

"Opposition to identity politics is often built not by the culturally and ethnically diverse working class who benefit but by lower-ability economic elites who feel that their advantage is under threat."

The Elite College Students Who Can’t Read Books To read a book in college, it helps to have read a book in high school.

It's happened to me for the first time. A number of students complained about having to read 1 full book for the semester. Am I antiquated in feeling this is a problem? www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

This matters! This shows that activism is a powerful vector of political socialisation, both for those involved with the group but more importantly also for those who come in contact with them through positive interactions. 🧵3/3
