Especially the journalists. They've drunk the "view from nowhere" koolaid for so long they can't conceive of a world where they might be one of the plebian masses who falls for that shit. πŸ™„

Virtually any performing art works best when there's a heavy degree of improv to it, and all improv depends entirely on strict rules that create a world of total freedom inside those rules. Part of the strictness is KNOWING THE SCRIPT. Not just memorization, but *knowing* it on top of that. /fin

The best pitchers, of course, know how to take the ideas in a graf and just run with them on their own. And you get a pair of REALLY good pitchers and they'll go full improv on you. That can get tricky, because you get lost in a conversation instead of staying on-message. But when it works...

Inexperienced pitchers literally read the script, word for word. The system allows for this. Doesn't sound great, but it's ok. Better pitchers mostly read the graf but realize it's HOW you read that makes a difference. Emphasis. Pauses. Repetition. All this is encouraged; a good producer guides you.

In public radio, good stations run their pledge drives with ~100 pages of scripts, broken down into 7 to 10 categories: case, match, close, open, gifts, legacy, sustainer, etc. Each page has 3-4 grafs. Producer tells the 2 pitchers which categories and in what order, the pitchers choose the graf.

I don't think it's you who's the crazy one in this scenario. Judging by all the artwork on display in this house, it's probably mostly painted by the owner and they are Making A Statement...and that statement is they're so rich that they DGAF.

This one clip from John Oliver's episode on Weiss and the Free Press back in Oct really captures their usual disingenuousness and deceit. It isn't just the casual dismissal of racism it's the way they don't tell you what the article was so people can assume it was not as obviously racist as it was

Welp, I can't speak for the journalistic cred, @lastweektonight1.bsky.social, but you have to admit, if @npr.org really did change their name to "The Fuck-Hole Times" it would be a real banger come pledge drive!

There is, statistically, a mass shooting slightly more than once per day in the country. It's inevitable that there'd be two in a relatively short period in the same area.

Go spit on someone who works at a gun company. You'll feel better. :)

Remember: the ones you catch committing the crime are always the dumbest of the lot. More criminals talk their way into prison than cops manage to nail them thru investigation. By orders of magnitude. It doesn't take a lot of brains to not get caught. Just discipline.

I suspect Gladwell was just smart enough to realize, upon even a limited exposure to Epstein, what staying anywhere near that orbit could do to him, sooner or later. Gladwell might be slime, but he's not quite that stupid.
