Border wars: a football match in 1599 between men of Bewcastle, England, and Armstrongs of Whithaugh, Scotland, was followed by ‘drynkyng hard’. Final score was two dead, 30 taken prisoner ‘and many sore hurt, especially John Whytfeild, whose bowells came out, but are sowed up againe’.

The truth about impartiality at the BBC And the hysteria of the current "crisis"

“When I was [at the BBC], at the height of Boris Johnson’s strength, that fear was ubiquitous. Scripts were sometimes written with a view not solely to their impartiality or truth, but the management of perception of impartiality from one side of the spectrum.“ @lewisgoodall.com

What are you doing? Just end the interview. He literally lied to your face about the geographic whereabouts of the president, which is as observable to you & us as the sunrise.

Don’t. Print. Lies. In. The. Newspaper.

What is the point or journalistic value of hosting these people, week after week, to performatively lie in response to your softball non-questions. What is the definition of insanity?

I honestly don’t understand how so many people are surprised that the Raptors haven’t been able to guard or rebound the basketball. Three of their five starters are widely perceived to be weak defenders. And none of them rebounds their position well at all (though RJ Barrett is at least average).

New York Times editorial board has compiled "a list of 12 markers of democratic erosion." www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

This is what "not the odds, but the stakes" was all about.

During the 2024 campaign, those 12 markers could have been in place and operating to guide news coverage everywhere.

UN Charter pledged us to save generations from scourge of war, defend human rights and justice.

Amid horror of El Fasher we must return to those words as rebuke for international failure, and challenge that world can do better.

Canada’s Other Superpower Problem The leaders of Canada and China will meet for the first time in eight years to try to reset relations after years of acrimony.

As poor as Canada’s relations with the U.S. have been under President Trump, they are even worse with the world’s other superpower, China. The leaders of Canada and China are set to meet for the first time in eight years to try to reset relations after years of acrimony.

He is the one bright spot in an abysmal start to the season. The Raptors are looking even worse on the defensive end than they did in San Antonio.

They just look lost. Their defensive rotations are slow when they happen at all - and no one can stay in front of their man.

It’s great. What stood out to me he was Scotty Barnes overall game. He was the best player on the floor and could easily have had 12-13 assists to go with his strong move to the Basket and great defence.

This is horrifying stuff.

The challenge for all decent people, relentlessly, is to make sure ‘not polling well with the public’ is combined with ‘ensuring the public is fully aware of what a vote for the Tories would mean’.

Except ofc Pogrund. DPP explained to C’tee tonight what happened. They asked DNSA to go further than confines of Tory view of China at relevant time. He refused. They asked him again. He emphasised it’s still no. Gabriel added 2+2 and got 12 - and instead of apologising now insists his sums add up.
