They're being used for optics. When Mayor Bowser requested national park services that DOGE fired, she didn't request troops. This is for show while others are standing around the monument, hanging out at Union Station or outside Krispy Kreme at Dupont Circle. While ICE make arrests in public.

Trump is bad, but JD Vance is an uncertainty. Will he be worse and he will follow him we know foreign leaders don't like or respect him. More importantly, who will be the VP. We are in trouble folks if Democrats don't win both chambers in midterm.

The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns.

The oil industry buys off Congress. No action on climate.

Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care.

The list goes on and on.

Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.

I agree with @gtconway.bsky.social it's going to take years for the country to recover from Trump. It's not just the damage he has caused, but the damage his MAGA supporters. It's getting back the respect and reputation on the world stage will not be easy.
