Great work by Joel Dacks & Cathy Jackson! Arf GTPases, key to eukaryotic organelle dynamics, trace their origins to prokaryotic ArfR GTPases in Asgardarchaeota. Structural and phylogenetic evidence reveals a link to eukaryogenesis and early endomembrane evolution.
