04.10.2025 02:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A significant part of MAGA want things to go off the rails. It's what comes after Trump that they care about--his job is to help take down what they see as a failing social and political model. It's much more radical than a lot of people realize.
28.09.2025 16:04 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It felt like a landslide because in a sane world Trump would have gotten 10% of the popular vote. That he won cemented the fact that thereβs been a cultural shift that is working against the left.
28.09.2025 14:55 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It is. The space for reactions to this horrible act that transcended politics closed almost immediately. He'll be known forever as martyr taken down by the intolerant left no matter what the facts turn out to be.

Seems pretty spot on. I would argue, though, that Platoβs account of the inevitable decline of the Republic into tyranny was the original theory of enshittification.
Sorry to hear about Tom Lehrer. My father was a big fan so I grew up listening to him. Sadly I never got a chance to take a class with him at UCSC. Hereβs one of my favorites.

I think shared governance is what makes academic freedom real. Professors can't have freedom to teach or research if faculty don't have a substantive role in curriculum, deciding what gets published, and so on. If faculty don't have this role, academic decisions will be made by non-academics.
