From what I have read, the modern concept of a paladin comes from a few sources, such as Palatine Hill and some of its associated culture and history. In addition to this, you have Charlemagne's twelve knights, most notably Roland.
These two sources, along with a couple more, birthed the paladin.

Palatine and its associations are believed to be one of the origins of the term paladin, a divine knight.

What do you think is the most compelling, in terms of 5E, for these?
Elemental Fey. Creatures, like in some traditional folklore, that are composed of their environment? Such as river trolls being water, mountain trolls being rock, and forest trolls being wood?
Druidic Golems.
Treants.
Nice! A new video. I will watch it while I enjoy my red-pepper tomato bisque and grilled cheese.

Copenhagen artist Thomas Dambo and his team create giant Danish trolls from recycled wood and debris. They are brought to life in natural environments, such as parks.

I think a key feature of good combat in TTRPGs is Interactive terrain, such as knocking over objects to great effect (it is important for it to feel impactful), jumping from feature to feature gain a height or mobility advantage, creating or destroying difficult terrain and other obstacles, etc.
