After months of being urged to amend my research interests to fit the department

I’m now told by the EXACT SAME PERSON “what makes you think you can do whatever you want?” 😳

We’ve moved past silly actually.

@CarnegieMellon has been unpleasant for a no. of reasons

Sigh I guess these are the perils of going to a small school with a small dept . . .

An additional frustration is I’m in this position because my former PI was wildly inappropriate with me . . .

I’ve been on the hunt for a new PI for quite some months now. What does one do when everyone in the dept is full?

In some instances it feels like the refusals are so arbitrary and can easily be worked around. Running into a brick wall and getting frustrated . . .

Feeling this based on recent events

it was never about plagiarism or DEI

kindness and patience is something the privileged can afford

my plan to be understanding and patient for 2024 lasted 3 days as people walked all over me, & I had to take a firm approach for people to actually see me (never mind treat me with basic respect)

Beyond being racist, the idea that standards are lower now is just laughably wrong. Every year, grad school applicants are more accomplished. If there’s a problem with “intellectual merit”, it is that we can expect *too much* and don’t give students breathing room to develop into critical thinkers.

There's no way you can shrink yourself small enough for their liking. They want you to disappear.

Hmm proof of being a student is quite easy. You can also consider transcripts. Or most schools will allow you to automatically generate proof of enrolment through your student account. No need to gate keep the Bluesky.
