so i helped a friend who bought a prebuilt a few years back upgrade to 32gbs. this was like maybe 2 months before Crucial did the thing and caused a ram panic basically. i found, and she bought, a decent 32gb kit of ddr4 ram for like $70. that timing was fucking crazy lol

PC stuff has always been weird from my experience. right now you're paying about as much for 32gbs of ram as your cpu but i do feel like this will basically correct itself over time. the market for certain components has fluctuated stupidly over the years. i may be totally wrong regarding ram though
