A white panther-like creature rears up on a stone balustrade of the Orangery Palace terrace in Sanssouci Park, its muscular body taut and jaws open as if frozen mid-roar. The long tail curls elegantly behind it, while the raised front paws and detailed mane-like fur give the sculpture an energetic, almost mythical presence overlooking the open forecourt. In this photo, a soft morning haze hangs over the surrounding trees, muting the greens and blues and giving the scene a quiet, dreamlike atmosphere. Gentle sunlight filters through the mist from the left, rim-lighting the statue so it glows against the darker woodland backdrop, as if the panther is just emerging from the fog into the waking park. Sanssouci Parkโs Orangery Palace (Orangerieschloss) features terraced gardens with fountains, arcades, and animal sculptures evoking southern European villas. The palace currently undergoes restoration under the Prussian Palaces Master Plan, housing subtropical plants in winter.

The sticks and guards are covered with figures from the famous Commedia dellโarte. If you look at the details painted on the fan, you will notice several persons wearing masks. These masks are the so called bauta masks. The bauta was one of the most popular masks of the 18th century, usually white, and worn with a black cape and a tricorne hat. Though masks were connected to carnival, wearing the bauta mask was not limited to this season (lasting from Epiphany until the beginning of Lent). It was rather common for Venetians to wear the bauta whenever they wanted to maintain anonymity, and thus the bauta costume was typical for the Venetian lifestyle.
In the 18th century, Venice was among the top destinations of the Grand Tour. The city was experiencing a period of peace, and economy and arts flourished. British travelers took pretty trifles back home, e.g. fans:

The central tree stands as a towering fountain of pale pink blossoms, its cascading branches creating a delicate, lace-like canopy that dominates the upper half of the frame. In the foreground, smaller cherry and plum trees in varying shades of rose and white line a grassy embankment, while bright yellow daffodils add a cheerful pop of color near a rustic wooden fence. The gentle slopes of the Kanagawa hills rise in the background, softened by a light morning mist that enhances the tranquil and romantic atmosphere of the scene.
