[text in image] Strike. It was exciting. It was unbelievable. The Union was "negotiating" with a lot of the owners about it. They were getting the "demands" all properly listed. Simple things really. More air. Less crowding. As if we might be human beings! That wasn't the end of it either. The Union was saying everything should be all organized so there'd be none of that end of the season nonsense. Work should be regular. We shouldn't be driven to it all the hours God sent us, then have nothing. Something else too -- we should know exactly what was in our bundles so we weren't always getting cheated of our due. Once more thing I haven't said about. One more thing that wasn't "right".
An illustration from To See The Stars. An ink drawing of the packed inside of a garment factory in the early 1900's. Rows and rows of women bent over sewing machines with piles of fabric all around them.
May Day is also International Workers Day. Jan Andrewsβ beautiful YA novel TO SEE THE STARS is the gripping story of a young Newfoundlander finding her voice in the early moments of the workerβs rights movement.

Against a blue background, graphic representation shows a diverse group of women holding a megaphone and placard. In the background are two yellow and black striped tapes. The text reads 'Women's health needs change from the time they are born to older age. But they often hit roadblocks to receive the right diagnosis and treatment they need.'
Today is #InternationalWomensDay
Progress on #GenderEquality in health care is too slow.
Women have distinct & changing health needs at different stages of their lives. Health care should be easy to access, fair & tailored to meet each womanβs unique needs & circumstances.
