R.I.P. Tony Benedict, storyboard artist and writer on THE FLINTSTONES, THE JETSONS, MAGILLA GORILLA, and a bunch of the old Hanna-Barbera shows. He also came up with the Jetsons' dog Astro. Great guy and a great talent.

Good question! As far as I'm aware, all of the effects in 2001 were done without computers, although Kubrick did look at John Whitney's early CGI films like CATALOG for inspiration for the Star Gate sequence, I've heard.
