Please stop using language that suggests that people with criminal records are appropriate targets for this administration's violence. One in three adults has a criminal record. Stop playing sacrifice games with fascists. Stop surrendering entire categories of people in your own mind.

Censorship is inherently destructive and should be, in my opinion based on my experiences, a last resort only. These changes only serve to harm the Bsky community, especially within the climate of other major platforms and 3rd party corporate interests making similar strides to censor art.

As is freedom of expression. There are so many creative and clever people in the world who can think of hundreds of alternatives to censorship for the purposes of allowing users to control the content that they see on their feeds.

And not least of all this is that art is meant to be considered, experienced, judged, and reckoned with. Not all art is for everyone, but it should be a personal choice, not an arbitrary mandate made by anyone else, to interact with certain kinds of expression. Freedom of choice is sacred.

I don’t believe that @bsky.app ‘s policy changes make the platform safer for its users. I agree with those who say that this will lead to further censorship on this platform, with those who say that this censorship can & will be used to harm people like me, to keep us from speaking our truths.

I would like to remind anyone reading this post that censorship can be harmful and is often used to such effects. We should always think of what is lost in the act of censorship and question the legitimacy of silencing forms of expression or speech that is alleged to be harmful or offensive.

I struggle to speak up about things that should be obvious or that other people have said better and sooner than I, but I will lend my voice in opposition to the encroaching censorship of valid artistic expressions on this platform where users already have the tools for opting out of it
