18.05.2025 06:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0As we get closer to the event, let's see what we're drafting! First, it's become a bit of a tradition to give a cube to the winner of the event, and this time we'll be cloning a fan favorite: @dvdsn.bsky.social 's Penrose Cube! No counters, no tokens; All good, clean Magic inspired by Odyssey block!

More cats. Thank you artists!!
30.01.2025 17:23 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Lastly I wanted to shoutout all my opponents for this event who were super fun to play against (everybody was actually so nice) and for assisting with a special request. @ravesinthesky.bsky.social was unable to go so I had everyone make cat tokens for them! Here are just some of the ones I got.
30.01.2025 17:23 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Once again want to shout out @dinrovahorror.mtgcu.be @vertexmtg.bsky.social for running the event and all those who helped somewhere along the way.
Special shout out to Griff and @einstein9998.bsky.social for both making top 8 with Brady being 12-0 going in (crazy to be undefeated across 4 cubes).
No top 8 this time, but I had so much fun with friends and getting to meet people that I'm looking forward to the next one. If Greg keeps running events, I'll keep coming to them and if you're seeing this but haven't been to one yet, definitely recommend it.
30.01.2025 17:23 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I did end up getting the 3-0 with UBR Breachmaster. I had some spicy games and Bowmaster looked phenomenal. Also shout out Waste Not because it played way better than I could've hoped.
I did get (functionally) T1'd in the single game I lost by my opponent with an Urza+Gleaner to put me in check.
I decided to try to draft some of the more unique cubes and I ended up in @anthony.luckypaper.co 's Turbo Cube (cubecobra.com/cube/overvie...) which I had never played in person before.
Turbo cube is definitely my kind of magic, so I was just hoping I could get a 3-0 pin.
It was pretty late after the final round for the day, so I drove around for a bit to find food, ended up at a Tandoori Pizza. Tasty but my brain was cooked so I should've just had water and gone to bed.
I needed to drive back to Pittsburgh on Sunday so I'd probably only draft once and watch Top 8.
I unfortunately ended 1-2 again, meaning top 8 was definitely cooked.
I don't have my deck build picture, but I felt like I had the vehicles but just not enough ways to crew and interact profitably. I lost a match to my good friend Griff, who would go on to make top 8.
Last cube of the day was going to be Bones's Eiganjo Drift (cubecobra.com/cube/overvie...)
I'd probably need to win out at this point to make top 8 so my spot didn't look amazing.
I ended up in the Classic Cars deck with a bunch of WU Historic spells and some cards that were new to me.
I drafted a sweet WRG Winota deck that ended up 2-1. Some of my wins weren't very close, where I was just too fast for some decks, but my loss felt winnable with better play. Would definitely draft this again.
30.01.2025 17:23 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Next cube was @deinonychus9.bsky.social 's Bodleian Cube (cubecobra.com/cube/overvie...)
which is like an AU Atomic Cube (cubecobra.com/cube/overvie...) for me since I get to play that cube so often.
It's always interesting seeing similar cubes taken in different directions by their curators.
I went 1-2 in Jund and I think I should've more highly prioritized fixing because by the end of the draft, I wish I could've been a consistent 3c deck over trying to focus 2 colors.
After Jund, I got to eat some of the catered food and it was phenomenal. Juan sure knows good Philly food.
Saturday was going to be 3 cubes, followed by 1 on Sunday (before Top 8).
My first cube was @tpug.bsky.social 's The JUNDERDOME (cubecobra.com/cube/overvie...)
I had some sweet BG cards and was splashing for powerful red cards like Mawloc after trying to stick two color for this first couple packs.
