I think the reason THAT is, is because of streaming/Covid. People don't go to the theater unless you provide something they can't get on streaming. A bad cheesy action flick is just not gonna get anyone to go unless it's got a hook

It’s annoying that Apple got so embarrassed by “new Apple movie won’t make back its budget in theaters” headlines (when said losses amount to a rounding error for a trillion dollar company) that they won’t even let a mid-budget movie like Highest 2 Lowest get a proper wide release in theaters.

Maybe they won't want to see it. But I imagine they will because it's a spectacle basically unlike anything else anywhere.

There has been! Between 2010-2020 Hollywood could basically count on China to make their film profitable. In 2025 only 2 American films have made $50+ mil in China. Jurassic and... Mission Impossible.

I'm fascinated to see what the upcoming 3rd film does there since it's basically a wasteland for Hollywood now
