Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo unveiled a proposal for a small property “penny tax” to generate roughly $60 million to continue and expand the county’s Early REACH early childcare program, plus summer camp and quality-enhancement initiatives. Commissioner Rodney Ellis (Precinct 1) continued the roll out of his climate justice strategy with community meetings in underserved neighborhoods, focusing on resilient infrastructure, flood mitigation, and equitable economic development. Democratic Judges Hon. Kelley Andrews (Criminal Court No. 6), Alex Salgado (Criminal Court No. 1), Andrea Beall (185th District Court), Juanita Jackson (Criminal Court No. 10), and Shannon Baldwin (Criminal Court No. 4) spoke at “Democratic Judges: Serious about Safety, Serious about Solutions,” a community forum to explain legal issues to Harris County residents. Judge Lori Chambers Gray (262nd District Court) hosted Tackling Crime in the Red Zone, a community-driven initiative to motivate and inspire our youth to excel, in collaboration with the NFL Alumni Houston Chapter and the NFL Players Association Houston Chapter.
