Yes. I keep telling myself to preserve my joy of writing and reading because it is an act of resistance. Sometimes I feel like that's an excuse to live in the bliss of ignorance, but my health is important. (And so is yours!)

MIT course 7 alum. Despite having MIT alum family members and in laws, I have not donated to MIT in a long time for various reasons but esp after their treatment of student protestors, but I might reconsider at this moment when we need them to continue to stand up to this admin's war on science.

One of the many reasons I love The Lord of the Rings is because it’s a story about living in the ruins of a world that is already passing away, and still choosing to fight in hope for those who come after you.

For audio the book helps if there are too many character names and for the book sometimes the acted out version captures me more than the just reading the prose. Also I can listen to a book while doing laundry or dishes.

My new thing is I really love listening to both the audio and physical copy of a book at the same time. I try to get them both from the library but sometimes I will buy one or the other if I can't. It helps for when I can't focus on one format for whatever reasons.

This is the genius of the Portland protests - they make the claims of lawlessness look not just wrong, but comical

I would love to think the notoriety of a book being pulled because of Trump would only help demand but ask any author and they'll tell you that being "banned" doesn't help your sales.

Authors are under attack, publishers are under attack, the first amendment is under attack. Yes I understand, this is a foreign publisher but it just makes me worry that any kind of book criticizing Trump is soon to be withdrawn from publication.

Is this how we market books right now? Maybe?

Anyway, a reminder that our adorable geology picture book is out now and is "a must-purchase for nonfiction collections", according to a *starred* review by School Library Journal.

Texting with another YA author friend this morning about the rough state of the market, and our consensus was, publishing keeps looking for the next Hunger Games, but they wouldn’t acquire the original if it were in their inboxes today
